The Mauldin High School dance team will appear in the Macy’s Day Parade

MAULDIN, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Mauldin High School Mavettes have been invited to travel to the Big Apple and be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Upstate’s dance team got the call in January that they were selected to dance the streets of New York City along with 500 other dancers for the 98th annual parade.

“I’m so excited, it’s like a once in a lifetime moment, a lifelong dream,” said Sarah Bloomingburg, captain of the Mavettes. “I can’t even wait for it. It’s so close too!”

Now the Mavettes are working on perfecting a dance that they will perform in less than two weeks.

The team leaves for New York on November 23rd to begin rehearsals.

“These girls will rise to the occasion, they are prepared,” said Mary Belvin, coach of the Mavettes. “We had our first rehearsal yesterday with the choreography and they already look amazing. I think it’s just going to be a once in a lifetime experience for all of us.”

Be sure to tune into the parade to see them perform on Thanksgiving Day.
