Watch as an ambulance from Sonoma arrives at the Ukrainian hospital

Watch as an ambulance filled with medical supplies sent to Ukraine by the Sonoma Sister Cities Association’s Sonoma/Kaniv Committee arrives at Kaniv City Hospital on November 2.

An ambulance filled with medical supplies is sent to Kaniv, Ukraine by Sonoma Sister Cities Association The Sonoma/Kaniv Committee arrived at Kaniv City Hospital on November 2nd.

The 21-year-old ambulance was retired by the Sonoma Valley Fire Department and is in good condition (with new tires), despite having traveled 104,000 miles. The City of Sonoma gave it to the Sonoma Sister Cities Association’s Sonoma/Kaniv Committee, filled with medical supplies. It left Sonoma in August and arrived in Kaniv on Saturday, November 2nd.

The entire effort, from start to finish, involved many contributions from Sonoma County organizations and residents.

In addition to the ambulance being provided by the city of Sonoma, all medical supplies in it were donated by various medical institutions in Sonoma County, including Sonoma Valley Hospital.

The Sonoma Sister Cities Association’s Sonoma/Kaniv Committee raised approximately $35,000 through online fundraisers and public events to pay for the $12,000 shipping costs and to purchase large, commercial backup batteries for Kaniv schools and public buildings.
