Virat Kohli completes a year since his last international hundred, could he end his BGT drought?

India’s star batsman Virat Kohli has completed 366 days since his last international hundred, a year to date since his famous knock against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium to help the Men in Blue reach the final of the ODI World Cup. While form has been a concern for the veteran batsman, it has been a bittersweet year for the former India captain as he prepares to take the field against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on November 22 in Perth.

Virat completes the latest international ton a year since

Taking to the field on 15 November 2023 against the Kiwis, who have haunted him in the past and present (after a 0-3 Test series loss), Virat hit 117 off 113 deliveries to help India reach 397/4. The ton helped India reach the ODI World Cup final before Australia rocked the Men in Blue in the final in Ahmedabad on 19 November.

Since the World Cup semi-final, the 36-year-old has made 626 caps in 28 rounds, averaging 23.19 per round. After the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, he has scored only two fifties for India in all formats while registering four ducks.

While the loss of the ODI World Cup final came as a huge heartbreak for the star, he would play a match-winning knock in the T20 World Cup final in June to help India lift the coveted trophy for the second time.

Will Virat end the drought of the century?

The Indian batter will next be in action on November 22 when India take on Australia in the opening contest of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Over the years, he has a good record against Australia, who are also his favorite Test opponents. He has scored 1352 runs in 25 innings Down Under, which is also his favorite away territory. With 2042 runs in 44 innings, the Australians have always been his favorite red-ball opponents, the only nation against whom he has scored more than 2000 Test runs.

Overall, conditions and opposition favor the veteran and it should not be a surprise if he ends his century drought at home to the World Test Championship (WTC) holders.
