The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany wants to make sure the people who attend Elijah Missionary Baptist Church still have a place to worship after a devastating fire gutted the 144-year-old building.

Bishop Avery Comithier received a call Friday morning from Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, who is currently overseas.

During the call, Bishop Scharfenberger said, “Whatever we can do, we will do.”

The diocese is offering congregational space in some of its Albany churches so people can continue to worship. Those plans are still coming together now, but this weekend people will be able to go to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Eagle Street in Albany.

Bishop Comithier is so grateful for the help, he said.
