However, Sacnilk.com reported slightly lower numbers, estimating the film’s Day 1 gross at Rs 40 crore, with Rs 28.5 crore coming from domestic earnings in India and Rs 11.5 crore from international markets. This still represents a solid start, especially considering the film’s opening on a weekday (Thursday).

Producer KE Gnanavel Raja had expressed his high ambitions for the film, initially saying that he dreamed of Kanguva reaching Rs 2000 crore worldwide. During a press conference, Gnanavel acknowledged the mixed response but remained optimistic, saying, “I expected the film to do much more on its opening day, but whatever we got is still phenomenal. The film performed well despite being released on a Thursday, and I expect it to be Suriya’s highest grosser on Monday.”
