Kanguva Day 1 Worldwide Box Office Collection: Suriya-Bobby Deol action drama fails to impress viewers, earns only Rs…

Suriya’s highly anticipated fantasy drama Kanguva, directed by Siva and starring Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, hit theaters on November 14. Despite opening to mixed reviews, the film has managed to make a significant impact at the box office on its opening day. According to the production house, Kanguva grossed a strong Rs 58.62 crore worldwide on its first day, with the poster celebrating the feat, which read, “Like a wild storm at the box office worldwide. Appreciated by all, our #Kanguva collects over 58 .62 million. Thanks to all the Anbaana fans, movie lovers and audiences who made this happen.”

However, Sacnilk.com reported slightly lower numbers, estimating the film’s Day 1 gross at Rs 40 crore, with Rs 28.5 crore coming from domestic earnings in India and Rs 11.5 crore from international markets. This still represents a solid start, especially considering the film’s opening on a weekday (Thursday).

Producer KE Gnanavel Raja had expressed his high ambitions for the film, initially saying that he dreamed of Kanguva reaching Rs 2000 crore worldwide. During a press conference, Gnanavel acknowledged the mixed response but remained optimistic, saying, “I expected the film to do much more on its opening day, but whatever we got is still phenomenal. The film performed well despite being released on a Thursday, and I expect it to be Suriya’s highest grosser on Monday.”

Mixed reviews for Kanguva

While Kanguva received attention for its star-studded cast and grand scale, reviews have been mixed. Hindustan Times noted, “Suriya is the heart and soul of Kanguva, but the film of Siva simply does not do justice to his performance and commitment.” The review criticized the film’s execution, stating that it failed to live up to the high expectations set by its long production period and ambitious premise.

Fans also had divided opinions. While Suriya’s performance was widely praised, many expressed displeasure with the film’s loud sound mix and criticized Siva’s writing and direction. Despite this, the film has managed to garner interest, especially with its cameo by Karthi and its ending, which hints at a sequel, Kanguva 2. The teaser for the sequel promises an exciting encounter between Suriya and his brother Karthi, raising anticipation for the next installment.

Will Kanguva rise over the weekend?

While Kanguva has made an impressive start, it remains to be seen whether the film can maintain its momentum over the weekend, especially as the reviews continue to roll in. With its huge global reach and the promise of a sequel, the film still holds the potential to become one of Suriya’s highest grossing films, depending on how it performs in the coming days.
