Cristiano Ronaldo have wished Reuben Amorim ‘good luck’ as Manchester United manager.

Amorim began life as United’s new boss this week following the club’s decision to fire Erik ten Hag earlier this month.

The 39-year-old will look to revive United’s season after a slow start to the campaign and his team’s trip to Ipswich Town in the Premier League next Sunday.

Ronaldo’s second stint at United ended after a string of finishes with the Ten Hag but the 39-year-old is keen to see Amorim become a success at Old Trafford.

When asked about Amorim’s move to United after PortugalRonaldo won 5-1 over Poland on Friday night: ‘I wish him all the luck in the world. Manchester United really need it.’

It was claimed this week that Ronaldo referred to Amorim as a “poet” in conversations with members of the Portugal national side.

Asked about the reference, Amorim said: ‘Yes. But it’s like a funny thing because I like to talk, not too much, but when I talk, I think I speak from the heart. I think people feel it. It was something to just have fun.’

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has revealed he may only have two years left before he retires.

‘I’m enjoying myself. Planning my retirement from football… it will happen in a year, two years, I don’t know. I enjoy the moment. I enjoy football, said the 39-year-old.

– It’s getting up, going to training and playing motivated. When I don’t feel like it, I’ll take a step forward and say it’s not for me anymore. I haven’t felt it yet.

“Do I want to reach 1,000 goals? It’s normal to want to, but I don’t think about it. I think game by game. In three months I’ll be 40. I’m taking it easy and that’s what I’ve been doing. What I like the most is to play for the Portuguese national team. I really enjoy coming here. Scoring goals also helps.’
