The fire brigade application is rejected

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Due to a recent overhaul of the city of Mobile’s firefighter pay plan, a judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the International Association of Firefighters during a status hearing today.

The new pay plan for first responders includes a complete overhaul of the public safety pay plan that led to raises for the vast majority of Mobile’s first responders.

Earlier this year, the city of Mobile and the Mobile County Personnel Board led a month-long effort to overhaul the public safety pay plan that took effect in September.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson released a statement today that reads in part:

“This incredible team effort ended decades of using a patchwork of incentives to fix an inadequate pay plan for our police officers and firefighters. After this new pay plan went into effect in September, the issue at the heart of the fire department’s lawsuit became a moot point. We are pleased that the court agreed and decided that the case should be dismissed.”
