Putin tells Scholz agreement on Ukraine should be based on reality on the ground – Kremlin – Russian politics and diplomacy

MOSCOW, November 15. /PAW/. Any agreements on Ukraine should take into account Russia’s security interests and be based on territorial realities, Russian President Vladimir Putin told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in a phone call.

“Possible agreements should take into account Russia’s interests in the security sphere, be based on the new territorial realities and, above all, eliminate the causes of the conflict,” the Kremlin press service quoted the president as saying.

Ukraine has pursued a blatantly anti-Russian policy in recent years, especially after the 2014 coup, which was supported by Western countries. In addition, the authorities in Kiev have actively repressed the Russian-speaking population, who have even been deprived of their rights. In February 2022, Russia, acting in defense of the population of Donbass, launched the special military operation, and in the fall of 2022, according to the results of the referendums, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became part of Russia.

Before the start of the special military operation, Moscow repeatedly pointed out that the West, which supports the Kiev regime, violates the principles of the indivisibility of security, and in December 2021 proposed draft agreements to ensure the security of both Russia and NATO countries. . In particular, the set of measures developed by Moscow proposed that all sides refrain from actions that would undermine each other’s security. But the West rejected the Russian initiative and even intensified anti-Russian actions from the territory of Ukraine.
