Singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou will perform at the Jefferson Center

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – For the past year, Lindsay Lou has been touring to promote her album, “Queen of Time.”

Lou says that the album title is a little scary for her, and admits that time management is not her greatest strength. The title track, she says, is more about self-reflection.

“Always going through changing times and challenging times are the ones that show us who we are the most,” says Lou.

Lou says she grew up in a musical family and was always singing and performing.

In college, she studied human biology.

“I was an undergraduate assistant in a lab studying plant adaptation and evolution. And I made as much money as a student assistant as I did as a touring bluegrass musician,” Lou says.

The music eventually won out and Lou began recording music and touring with the bluegrass band The Flatbellys.

As a musician, she says she still thinks like a scientist.

“You know, science and art are not that different,” she explains.

Lou’s musical influences include artists from Bill Monroe to Emmylou Harris.

Lou will perform Friday night at the Jefferson Center. She says that the audience should expect a mix of sounds.

“I’ll be playing songs that I love, traditional songs, maybe some bluegrass songs, maybe some folk songs, a bunch of songs that I’ve written and recorded,” says Lou.

The concert at the Jefferson Center begins at 8:00 p.m
