Bozeman police are investigating two wrong-way driving days apart

The Bozeman Police Department is reporting two hit-and-run incidents that happened just days apart in downtown Bozeman.

Police reported witnessing a gray Dodge Challenger with a headlight speeding down Main Street at over 100 mph this past Saturday.

The car eventually turned east on West Mendenhall, traveled downtown the wrong way and led officers to end the pursuit for safety concerns.

The second report was of a hit-and-run Tuesday night in which a truck t-boned another vehicle after going around 90 mph at the intersection of East Babcock and South Wallace avenues.

The vehicle continued in the wrong direction westbound on East Babcock. However, officers were eventually able to take the person into custody.

Officers with the Bozeman Police Department say impaired driving is a common occurrence within the city limits and there are several factors to how these incidents occur.

“There are a lot of people who visit Bozeman who are not familiar with Bozeman and how the streets are laid out. I think there is an ignorance. Obviously, distracted driving if you’re just distracted by whatever is going on in your car, you can drive the wrong way on a one-way street in Bozeman pretty easily, said Bozeman Police Department Patrol Capt. Hal Richardson.

Richardson advises drivers to carefully look for signs, if you see a wrong-way driver, drive defensively, try your best to avoid a collision and be a good witness so officers know who to track down.
