Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis Unveils ‘100-Day Action Plan’

Austin’s new police chief, Lisa Davis, unveiled a 100-day action plan Thursday in which she promises to gather a wide range of community input to help formulate “a strategic roadmap for the future of public safety in Austin.”

The 8-sided plan identifies three key priority areas: recruitment, retention and morale at the Austin Police Department; community trust and crime prevention; and the department’s “capacity for excellence and innovation.”

It will kick off a “listening campaign”. This can involve town halls, focus groups and meetings with faith-based leaders, justice and social service organizations and other interests.

“My goal will be to cultivate a clear and deep understanding of your perspectives, concerns and ideas to strengthen Austin’s vibrancy and resilience,” Davis writes in the plan.

Its release is coming almost two months into Davis’ hiring as Austin’s 11th police chief and weeks after approving one five-year, $218 million police union contract which calls for historic pay raises for officers. Davis previously served as assistant chief of the Cincinnati Police Department, where she worked for 30 years. Her hiring marked the first time since 2007 that the city has chosen an outside candidate for police chief.

Davis was scheduled to answer questions about the plan from local media Thursday morning.
