Wednesday’s severe flooding caused damage in Carencro

“Everything is damaged, everything.”

Mary Broussard and her family have lived on Fado Street for 3 years. While Mary tells KATC she has experienced flooding on her street before, it has never reached her home.

“I mean we tried sandbags but it passed, it just started flooding the house,” said Jeffery Glasgow, Mary’s husband.

Her home was another victim of Wednesday’s heavy rains, which caused major roads to be impassable and schools to be closed.

The water in some areas on Fado Street – waist deep.

“I have three grandchildren that live with me and all their stuff was destroyed from their clothes to their iPads,” Broussard said.

Her family felt that this damage could have been avoided if the neighborhood had proper drainage all around
the.

“If they can dig up the canal a little deeper, I think it would be a lot better for everyone who lives there.”

Her son Glizzy Woods who lives with his mother agrees.

“We all pay the right taxes so what is our tax money doing to our drainage, it’s bad as you can there is a lot of water out there. Nothing is being done to our community,” said Woods.

KATC reached out to Carencro Mayor Charlotte Clavier about the drainage system in this particular area – in a statement she says:

The city has done a lot of work in the area but to do more would require more land. These unexpected major events are difficult to plan for, but we are grateful that the Carencro Police Department, Carencro Fire Department and Carencro Public Works are stepping up to help our citizens.”

Broussard tells KATC they are just thankful to be safe and will continue to salvage what they can from their home.
