Father of 2-year-old involved in deadly Kinston hit & run charged

KINSTON, NC (WITN) – A two-year-old is dead and the father is facing charges after a hit-and-run in an eastern Carolina town.

On Friday, just before 8:00 p.m., emergency services along with Kinston Police responded to the Carver Courts Apartment Complex regarding a motor vehicle hit and run involving two people. When they arrived, police said a two-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man were suffering from serious injuries.

The two-year-old was taken to UNC Lenoir Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries. The 35-year-old victim was taken to ECU Health Medical Center where he is currently listed in good condition.

During the investigation, police identified a suspect and a vehicle responsible for the accident. The suspect, Rashaun Wade, was later arrested. According to officials, Wade is the father of the two-year-old girl.

Wade was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of felony assault, criminal damage to a vehicle and DWI. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail.
