Phillies listed among top potential suitors for Yankees slugger

Can the Philadelphia Phillies add another big bat to a lineup that already features Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos and JT Realmuto?

Philadelphia won 95 games in the regular season and cruised to its first National League East title since 2011. They eventually fell in the NLDS to the underdog New York Mets, but they could go big in free agency to improve their chances of a World Series run next year.

Over the past few years, Philadelphia has made some big splashes in free agency, but they can always add more. Juan Soto is a free agent, and Newsweek lists the Phillies as a potential landing spot for the New York Yankees slugger.

“Soto has a history with several current Phillies stars. He was a World Series player with Trea Turner, and he was also teammates with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber at one point.

The Phillies are set to be as aggressive as anyone in the offseason with some rumored interest in Soto. The problem here is that the Phillies simply won’t have the money to match offers from teams like the Yankees and Mets.

Still, their interest in Soto will raise some eyebrows. They are one of the best teams in the league and would give Soto a good chance to win a World Series.”

Obviously, the Phillies would face significant competition in the Soto sweepstakes. Not only will the Yankees and Mets be slugging, but the Los Angeles Dodgers could be as well.

Soto had a very impressive 2024 season with the Bronx Bombers. He hit .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .989 OPS. He also had a 178 OPS+ and posted a 7.9 WAR.

Signing him will be no easy task, but the Phillies could certainly benefit from having his presence around, and he could help guide them back to the World Series if brought on board. We find out what the offseason has in store for the Phils.
