Tunde Adebimpe Shares New Song “Magnetic”: Stream

TV on the radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe has signed to Sub Pop Records and released a new song, “Magnetic.”

“Magnetic” is the lead single from Adebimpe’s upcoming debut album, which will be released in 2025. With a fast tempo and buzzing synths, “Magnetic” is an exciting return from the musician, actor and filmmaker. “I thought of my time in space/ I thought of the human race/ In a time of tenderness and anger,” Adebimpe sings to open both the first and second verses, later howling over a motorik and asking, “What are they gonna do with a lightning rider?”

It also comes with an energetic music video directed by Adebimpe himself. Throughout, he and a woman dance freely in black and white, with only a microphone and a PA system on set. Watch the “Magnetic” video below.

Although it’s his debut single for Sub Pop, Adebimpe has been busy building his solo career outside of TV on the radio. He has dusted off his acting resume with new appearances Twisters and Disney+ Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew. Musically, he contributed a cover of Sleater-Kinney’s “The Drama You’ve Been Craving” in 2022 for the 25th anniversary tribute LP Dig Me In: A Dig Me Out Covers Album. He also released the charity singles “ReelFeel” and “People” year 2020.

Meanwhile, Adebimpe and his band TV on the Radio have just reformed after a five-year hiatus. The band performed their first show since 2019 on September 4 at a surprise Vans event in their native New York City, and will release a new reissue of their debut album Desperate youth, bloodthirsty brides on November 15.

In conjunction with the reissue, TV on the Radio will play short breaks in New York, Los Angeles and London in November and December. See tour dates hereand get tickets here.
