U.S. Marshals seek help from Mineral Wells to find wanted sex offender

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The U.S. Marshals Service has increased the reward for a wanted sex offender from West Virginia.

The U.S. Marshals Service West Virginia Southern District CUFFED Task Force is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Gabriel Allen Hargus, 47, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.

Hargus is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service, West Virginia State Police, and the West Virginia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Parole) on federal and state arrest warrants for failure to register as a sex offender and parole violation.

The United States Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to Hargus’ arrest.

Hargus was convicted in February 2011 in Kanawha County of Possession of Materials Depicting Explicit Sexual Conduct of a Minor (Child Pornography) and 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse of a 13-year-old female victim.

Kanawha County Circuit Court sentenced Hargus to two years in prison, thirty years of extended supervision, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Hargus had previously been convicted of failing to register as a sex offender.

Hargus was last seen in El Paso, Texas, driving a 2016 Silver Ford Focus bearing West Virginia Registration, N3R908.

Hargus is aware that he is wanted and is currently evading capture by law enforcement.
