Man charged in downtown Calgary stabbing

A man has been charged in connection with two separate stabbings in downtown Calgary last month.

In a news release Thursday, police said officers were called to Century Gardens Park in the 800 block of Eighth Street SW around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 8 for a stabbing.

While the suspect escaped on foot, it was learned that the injured person’s life was in danger.

He was later found suspicious at around 12:45 on September 9 and arrested without incident.

Following investigation, detectives linked the suspect to another stabbing that occurred on September 3 at the City Hall CTrain Station in the 300 block of Seventh Street SE. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The injured continue to recover and have been discharged from the hospital.

Police said the incidents were likely coincidental because the victims and the suspect did not know each other.

A 22-year-old Calgary man has been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and breach of probation. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday. He remains in custody.
