Denver Voice homeless newspaper resumes operations after funding crisis

The Denver’s voicea monthly magazine aimed at serving the city’s homeless population, has raised donors to fund its operations until 2024, after announcing in September that it was temporarily shut down.

“We certainly hoped our closure would be short-term, and today we are pleased to announce that we are not closing permanently,” Robert Davis, chairman of the nonprofit magazine’s board of directors, said in a news release. “The support we’ve received from our community has been overwhelming.”

The newspaper earlier posted on Facebook that it would suspend operations for at least a month, as it could not pay staff, cover expenses or support its supplier program, which provides free and discounted copies of the newspaper to homeless residents of Denver, and those at risk of losing their housing, to sell.
