Teen found dead at Red Wing juvenile detention center

A teenager in custody at Red Wing juvenile detention center in southeastern Minnesota has died.

Minnesota Department of Corrections officials said Saturday that staff found an unresponsive inmate. Authorities attempted to take life-saving measures but they were unsuccessful. Paramedics arrived and the resident was pronounced dead at the scene, spokeswoman Shannon Loehrke said.

He added that the investigation is continuing to determine how the prisoner died.

No information was given regarding the identity of the deceased.

The Red Wing facility has a capacity of 88 inmates.
