Ex-Spurs boss Sherwood claims Liverpool star has already decided to leave: ‘He’s gone’

Liverpool have no chance of keeping Real Madrid target Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.

The Reds have made a great start to the new Premier League season with seven wins from their first eight Premier League matches.

Arne Slot couldn’t have asked for a better start to his first season after replacing Jürgen Klopp. Liverpool The Merseysiders are currently top of the Premier League.

Alexander-Arnold has made two assists in 10 appearances in all competitions, with the England national team’s back four having conceded just three goals in the Premier League all season.

The Liverpool defender is one of three Reds stars out of contract at the end of the current season, with Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk in the same position.

Van Dijk announced on Monday that he was “in talks with the right people” There is a new contract at Anfield but Alexander-Arnold’s situation looks less clear.

The latest speculation appears to point to him leaving Liverpool, with a claim made earlier on Tuesday following interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid. ‘A very strong possibility’ He could move to the La Liga side in January.

Sherwood said when asked whether Liverpool’s superb start to the new season would help persuade Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah to stay. Sky Sports: “This helps.

“We are talking about the three best players there who want to win trophies. They don’t want to sit there just to fight for Champions League positions. They all want to win something, so this start helps, can only help.

“I think he went with Trent. When Real Madrid comes knocking on your door… he has won everything at the football club and has been a great servant but there is no chance of them keeping him now, I wouldn’t think about it.

“I think it’s completely different with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah because I’m not sure where they will go, I don’t know which one is better than Liverpool.”

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey now believes Slot can lead the Reds to the Premier League title in his first season.

Heskey told Casino Applications: “I can see Arne Slot leading Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season. The period between Christmas and New Year will be very meaningful; when it gets to that point we’ll really see how it’s done.

“As a manager, I believe in Slot and their structure as a team, I think they have the mental capacity to go all the way. They have a really good chance this season and they are already putting pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal but they need to keep it up because City are not going to stop.”
