Serial San Francisco BART station vandals arrested: police

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco man whose disruptive behavior allegedly caused half a million dollars in damage to BART stations was captured by officers, police said.

BART police said 28-year-old Saqueo Delcidmontenegro targeted three busy stations in downtown San Francisco during a “vandalism spree.”

Police said the BART Police Department Transit Ambassador recognized Delcidmontenegro as he boarded the train Tuesday night. Officers arrested him.

Since the beginning of October, 29 large glass panels have been damaged at the entrances to the Embarcadero, Montgomery and Powell Street stations. Police suspect Delcidmontenegro is responsible for the vandalism.

“Many of the destroyed panels are part of new canopies being built over the entrances to stations in downtown San Francisco,” Polis wrote. “This work is a vital part of BART’s efforts to improve the daily rider experience.”

The total cost of replacing the panels is estimated at more than $500,000.

Delcidmontenegro was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on five counts of felony vandalism.
