Three seriously injured in Bellevue house explosion

Three people are in the hospital with serious injuries after an explosion at a home in Bellevue.

OFD was called to the area of ​​50th and Robin Drive just before 11 pm Thursday.

The victims were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, officials say.

The Bellevue fire chief says there were seven people in the house at the time of the incident.

An investigation is currently underway.

1 injured after shooting near Omaha’s Old Market

Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting near the Old Market in downtown Omaha.

The Omaha Police Department says they found a man with a gunshot wound in his leg near 13th and Howard Streets just before 3 am Friday.

An officer was a few blocks away when he heard gunshots and arrived at the scene, a police lieutenant tells 6 News.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

OPD is looking for any potential suspects.

Omaha kidnapping suspect appearing in court Friday

A fourth person will be making an appearance in court Friday in connection with an Omaha kidnapping case.

Cotrell Knight, 35, is reported by police as the driver in the kidnapping of a woman in Sept. He was arrested Wednesday on a warrant.

The victim told the police that she got into the car with Knight as she was meeting up with him to sell an iPad.

She also says that she was tied up and burned by one of the suspects before escaping a few hours later.

If Knight is convicted, he could face life in prison.

Coverage of Nebraska medical marijuana petition trial

Trial in a lawsuit against the sponsors that got medical marijuana petitions on the Nov. ballot. is continuing Friday at 8 am The trial began a week before Election Day.

In wake of charges filed against two officials, the state is challenging the validity of nearly 100,000 signatures between two petitions.

The court found Thursday that a collector has been previously convicted of insurance fraudand is on probation for it. She said that she did not sign the petition pages in person and in front of a notary, as required.

“The defense has been keeping a tally on an easel and says the government has only been able to invalidate a couple hundred signatures at best — not close to the 4,000 necessary to toss the case,” 6 News Reporter Brian Mastre says.

Nebraskans are already voting on Initiatives 437 and 438. If passed by voters as they stand nowone ballot initiative would legalize medical marijuana and the other would regulate it.

The trial was scheduled to wrap up Friday, but will most likely continue into Monday — the day before Election Day.

Texts spark confusion about alleged Fischer, Osborn debate Friday

Several people in the metro are reporting receiving text messages about an alleged debate between Sen. Deb Fischer and Dan Osborn, who are running for the Nebraska seat in the US Senate.

The texts, which game from a group calling itself “CivicNow,” claim that a debate was set for Friday night at UNO’s Thompson Alumni Center.

Both campaigns have confirmed that the debate is not happening, with Fischer’s team putting the blame on Osborn, saying it is “another one of his campaign stunts.”

A PR firm in charge of the event tells 6 News that Osborn had agreed to participate in the debate, but Fischer declined.

Huskers back at home for Saturday’s game against Bruins

Nebraska football will face off against UCLA on Saturday as they look to end their seven-year bowl drought.

“For the second straight week, the Huskers get an opponent coming off a bye. Before their off week, the Bruins picked up their first Big Ten win of the season, a 35-32 decision over Rutgers,” 6 Sports Reporter Clayton Collier says.

Those at the game can expect scattered showers and a few storms, according to Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord.

“That will most certainly impact your Saturday plans and will likely try to impact the Husker game down in Lincoln,” Lord says.

The 2:30 pm game will be aired on the Big Ten Network, with live coverage available on the Huskers Radio Network.

At Huskers Coach Matt Rhule’s news conference on Monday, he said that the Big Ten admitted to incorrect ball swatting in the second quarter against Ohio State.
