Texas EquuSearch digs up backyard to find missing person’s remains

A family may be close to getting answers about their missing loved one.

Houston police investigators believe the remains of a missing person may be in a garden in the Spring Branch area. With the help of Texas Equusearch volunteers, they are digging in the backyard of a vacant house in Elmview near Blalock and Long Point.

The person they are looking for has been missing for nearly ten years.

“It’s frustrating. It’s absolutely creepy, it’s sad. All the neighbors are wondering what’s going on. How did we not know?” says Ivonne, who has lived in the neighborhood for 14 years.

“This is very worrying. I mean, we live in a gated community here,” explains a man who has lived here for 15 years.

“One of the homicide detectives was at the gate of the neighborhood and asked us a few questions to see if we were aware of anything or if we had seen anything. He admitted that they were looking for a body that might have been missing for about 10 years,” Ivonne adds.

“My mother is very worried. This house has been abandoned for a while,” says a young man, adding that the house tends to attract crime. “So people will come, drive by, shoot. I was out with my nephews and people came shooting. So it doesn’t happen often, but it did happen when we were outside and we heard gunshots and gunshots. It was kind of a dive.”

“It’s disturbing. It’s upsetting to know that someone could commit a crime so close to where we lay our heads to sleep and potentially bury a person or people there. We don’t even know if it’s one or multiple. I just hope they find what they’re looking for and I hope they find some people somewhere.” there is a family that will get the answers and bring closure,” says Ivonne.

EquuSearch and HPD have spent this week trying to uncover any hidden secrets that may be here. Investigators did not say whose remains they were looking for or why they were looking at this location, only that the person had been missing for a decade.
