Apple has today revealed the last two of three new ones M4 chips – M4 Pro and M4 Max– all of which are in the updated one 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max are built using second-generation 3-nanometer technology, making them faster and more energy efficient.

Ideal for casual users, the M4 chip features a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, providing a performance increase of up to 1.8x compared to the M1 chip. It supports 32GB of memory with a bandwidth of 120GB/s and offers enhanced multitasking, gaming and AI-powered capabilities through its 16-core Neural Engine. There are three Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The The 14-inch MacBook Pro now comes in Silver and Space Black with the M4.

“Apple silicon has taken the Mac to unprecedented heights, and the rapid pace of innovation continues with the M4 Pro and M4 Max,” Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, said in a statement Wednesday. “With the world’s fastest CPU core, immensely more powerful GPUs and the fastest neural engine ever, the M4 family’s power-efficient performance and capabilities extend its lead as the most advanced circuit of chips in the industry.”

The M4 Pro takes things further and targets professionals such as developers and creative workers. It has a 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, plus a 20-core GPU that offers twice the performance of the base M4. Compared to the M1 Pro, it is 1.9 times faster and introduces Thunderbolt 5 for the first time, with transfer speeds of 120 Gb/s, plus support for up to 64 GB of unified memory.

At the top of the range is the M4 Max, a high-end chip for professionals such as video editors and computer scientists. The M4 Max offers a 16-core CPU with up to 12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. Its 40-core GPU provides 4x the performance of leading AI PC chips, making it ideal for rendering large projects and processing large amounts of data.

The M4 Max supports 128 GB of memory with 546 GB/s bandwidth and comes with two video encoders and ProRes accelerators for real-time video editing. It also has Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, which ensures ultra-fast data transfers.

Also new is a nanotexture display option as an upgrade, while SDR content can be viewed at up to 1,000 nits of brightness and HDR content at up to 1,600 peak nits. Also new is a 12 MP Center Stage camera that keeps you centered during video calls.

Of course, these chip upgrades allow the MacBook Pro to easily integrate Apple Intelligence.

The the new M4 MacBook Pro series starts at $2,099 in Canadawith 16 GB RAM as base memory and 512 GB SSD storage. You can pre-order today and the new laptops will launch on Friday, November 8, 2024.
