“I feel happiness just thinking about this”

Growing up, you may have dreamed of your own tree house to have fun with your friends and pretend you belonged to the Swiss Family Robinson.

But one Redditor has taken those childhood fantasies and turned them into reality, creating a tree house behind their home that they intend to turn into an office.

On the r/TinyHouse subreddit, the detailed ones that the tree house is 120 square feet and has a kitchenette, a queen size bed in a loft and will soon have a shower and a composting toilet.

The also noted that because it is under shelter and tral requirements where they live, they did not have to get permission to build. A trickle charge battery unit provides power, while water comes from a “RV/Van life source”.

Another option for providing power can be invest in solar panels. The technology harvests light from the sun and then sends it to an inverter, where it is converted into usable electricity. As well as benefiting from free energy, this means you don’t need to access power from the grid, which can be a planning and bureaucracy nightmare. In addition, the electricity grid is still overwhelmingly dependent on dirty fuels, so you will reduce your personal polluting output.

Although this treehouse project doesn’t look like it will become a full-time home, lives in a small house can be extremely rewarding and kind to the planet. With minimal space, you have to be ruthless about the items you can buy and keep, which means you don’t engage in consumption as much as you would in a standard-sized house. This means you don’t spend money unnecessarily, and you can make sure you don’t waste resources or contribute as much to methane-producing landfills.

But most of all, this tree house just looks like a lot of fun and a great place to get away from it all. Redditors were also impressed.

“I feel happiness just thinking about this little tree house,” said one user. “What good work.”

“It’s enchanting!” another added. “Thanks for sharing!”

If you could build a home anywhere, where would you put it?

In town

In the mountains

On the beach

In the desert
