What you need | Preparing installation

Make sure you buy one with heatsink included. Heatsink sizes can vary widely and buying a separate heatsink can make your SSD too bulky to install in the small PS5 Pro expansion slot. • Phillips #1 screwdriver: This screwdriver is necessary to remove the screws holding the expansion tray closed and install your SSD. If you use a larger screwdriver, you risk removing the screw.

How to Install SSD in PS5 Pro Expansion Slot

Before working with your PS5, turn off the PS5 — when completely powered off, remove the power cable from the back of the system and all other cables. You will want to work on a stable flat surface such as a desk or kitchen table.

• Step #1: Remove the cover plate
• When PS5 Pro is turned off and all cables are removed, begin by removing cover plate at the bottom right from the system. To do this, gently pull the cover plate from the front away from the console until the plastic fasteners pop out.
• To make this easier, turn the console upside down and face it against you.

Hold the front edge and lift. When the fasteners come loose, lift the cover and remove the system. It may take more force than you expect to remove the cover plate. Take it slow and it will eventually come off.

• Step #2: Open the expansion slot
• The Expansion site located near the fan. Look for a metal plate with one single screw.
• Used #1 Screwdriver to remove the screw and plate from the bracket. Be sure to place the screw somewhere safe and flat to ensure you don’t lose it.

With the expansion slot open, we can now install the SSD.

• Step #3: Install the M.2 SSD
• Remove screw and metal spacer from the internal expansion slot and place these somewhere you can quickly access — you need them to M.2 SSD.
• Lean M.2 SSD diagonally and insert into the slot — look at the connector to see a small notch to help you align the SSD with the slot. Insert the M.2 SSD diagonally into the slot, then push down to lower it into a flat position.
• Replace metal spacer and screw to hold the M.2 SSD in place and then screw down.

If M.2 SSD does not fit, check that it is properly inserted into the slot. If it is not fully inserted into the slot, the screw and metal spacer will not fit back into place.

Once the M.2 SSD is screwed into the expansion slot, replace the metal cover and screw it back into place. Then put the cover back on the PS5 console. To replace the plastic cover, insert the rear brackets into the holes on the back of the console by tilting the cover, then push down until the front brackets snap into place.

You can now replace the cables and power for your PS5. If the M.2 SSD is properly installed, it will be detected on your PS5 Pro at startup and formatted for use.
