On November 13, 2023, Sacramento Regional Transit decided not to build a new light rail station near Richards Boulevard at Mirasol Village in the River District. The area is filled with new affordable housing and residents who were sold on it after being guaranteed access to public transportation when it was built.

“Way back when we started this redevelopment project, the idea of a light rail station was always a part of it, but the costs really escalated,” said Sacramento City Councilwoman Katie Valenzuela said in January. “There was more pollution than we thought so we needed to fill a budget gap to make the project happen.”

On 8 January, the decision not to build the tramway was reversed and plans for the new station resumed. Construction is scheduled to begin on November 18, according to SacRT.
