Family holds vigil to remember Va. mother killed in domestic violence shooting

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — The family of a Chesterfield woman killed in a domestic violence incident will hold a vigil to commemorate her life Saturday afternoon.

25-year-old mother Dominique Fields was shot and killed Nov. 7 outside her home in Chesterfield.

On Saturday, outside the same apartment, Dominique’s mother, Michelle Erazo, will hold a vigil to remember the young mother of two whose life was tragically cut short.

Erazo says a text and a headline prompted her to go to her cell phone on Nov. 7.

“I have her place because I help pay the phone bill, I help her,” Erazo said. “When I zoomed in on her location and I saw the article about the woman shot several times. I zoomed in to the right and it said South. Point Landing. I started shaking.”

She had a gut feeling that something terrible had happened to her daughter, Dominique.

“As I was getting ready to go down there, I heard a knock on the door and it was the cops and I already knew. They didn’t have to tell me – I already knew it was her.”

Chesterfield Police were called to the 5800 block of Nottinghill Drive for a woman shot outside her apartment home.

The next day, police confirmed that the US Marshals Task Force had the father of Dominique Fields’ two children, Quadry B. Campbell, in custody and charged with murder.

“She was a good person, a good mother. Everyone loved her,” Erazo said. “She had a good heart. She was an angel. She was a mama’s girl. Always attached to me. She did no wrong to anyone. She was always helpful and she was all about her and her children.”

A vigil remembering Dominique will be at 4 p.m. Saturday outside her apartment at South Point Landing Apartments. Erazo says attendees can light a candle at the vigil.
