Packers-Bears final injury report: Starters out

GREEN BAY, Wis. – While the Green Bay Packers’ rookie quarterback has made an immediate impact, their top two draft picks on offense continue to hit injury-related roadblocks.

In Friday’s practice, the last before Sunday’s rivalry showdown at the Chicago Bears, first-round pick Jordan Morgan and third-round draft pick MarShawn Lloyd did not practice and have been ruled out for Sunday’s game at the Chicago Bears.

.Starting defensive backs Jaire Alexander (knee) and Evan Williams (hamstring), who were inactive against Detroit, practiced all week as limited participants and are questionable. Defensive tackle C’olby Wooden (shoulder) is questionable.

Lloyd, who has been sidelined by hip, hamstring and ankle injuries this season, has appendicitis, coach Matt LaFleur said after Friday’s practice.

“You can’t make this up,” LaFleur said.

Morgan appeared on Thursday’s injury report as a limited participant with a shoulder injury; he has struggled with shoulder problems throughout the season.

“We’re working through it right now,” LaFleur said.

Both players are out, the latest setbacks in difficult rookie seasons.

Lloyd, who missed the start of training camp with a hip injury and most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, suffered an ankle injury in his lone regular season game in Week 2 against the Colts and landed on injured reserve. He was named a returnee on Monday but has not been added to the roster. He was limited on Wednesday and Thursday due to ankle and hamstring problems.

The Packers have an opening on the roster after the trade of Preston Smith. On Thursday, LaFleur indicated it would go to Lloyd.

Not anymore, apparently.

The only other player who did not go out for the start of practice was Wooden, who did not practice all week.

Center Josh Myers, who sat out the Detroit game because of an injured left wrist, practiced for the third straight day. He was not given an injury designation and will play Sunday, presumably with some kind of wrap or cast to protect the injury.

“Anytime you can have your starting center there, the guy that gets everything routed, all the calls, all that stuff, that’s very important,” Stenavich said.

Without Myers against Detroit, Elgton Jenkins moved to center and Morgan got his first NFL start. When healthy, Morgan had averaged about 24 snaps at right guard the previous three weeks.

Getting Alexander back would be crucial given the talent of Chicago’s receiversand the defense has suffered without rookie Williams.

Quarterback Jordan Love has been a full participant all week and likely won’t be on the final injury report.

Love paced the Bears in both starts last year with five touchdowns and zero interceptions.

“He presented the dual threat to them,” Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington told reporters this week. “Really good arm talent, could make a lot of throws. He grew as far as his ability to read coverage and deliver the football where it needed to go.

“Very quick release, but he also had that part of having to account for him as a rusher. It’s hard to defend when the other rusher is a quarterback and all of a sudden now it becomes a mission issue or a mission situation for our defense. He has a well-rounded ability to continue to shift the offensive philosophy, and he’s only going to get better.”

For Chicago, the Bears will get a boost with the return of left tackle Braxton Jones and right tackle Darnell Wright. They did not receive a damage description on Friday’s damage report. Without them last week against the Patriots, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked nine times.

However, left guard Teven Jenkins is gone.

Their best defensive player, defensive end Montez Sweat, practiced the last two days and is questionable.
