Chico Ice Rink opens with new features, including broomball and discount nights

The Chico Ice Rink opened Friday for the winter season, offering new amenities and activities for the public.

This year, the ice rink has introduced several exciting new features to enhance the experience for visitors.

Among these additions is broomball, which will take place every Monday night from 8pm to 10pm. In addition, CARD and the Chico Downtown Business Association have launched “Cheapskate” Mondays, where skaters can enjoy discounted $5 admission. Concessions will also be available, with a selection of snacks and beverages. On Fridays, adults can unwind with a drink.

Theme Thursdays will still take place, including Barbie Night, Ugly Sweater Night and more.

The track is loved by the community, and the numbers show. The Chico Area Recreation and Park District, CARD, states that over 16,000 tickets were sold last year, with more than 300 skaters each day.

“It just gives something new and fun for people to do during the time where it can be cold and people will be more likely to stay inside. They get to come out to the ice rink, skate with their friends and family, there are heaters, there’s entertainment, there’s food. It’s just something where people can come together, enjoy the holiday season and have some fun,” said Holli Drobny, CARD administrative director.

The ice rink schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: 16.00 to 19.30
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday : 16.00 to 21.00
  • Friday: 16.00 to 22.00
  • Saturday: 12.00 to 22.00
  • Sunday: 12.00 to 21.00

Cabanas are also available for rent throughout the season, which will run until January 12, 2025.
