Man Allegedly Violating No-Contact Order Shot by Clark County Deputies

A series of gunshots reported in a residential neighborhood in Camas on November 13, 2024 led to a bystander shooting, according to local authorities.

The incident began around 10:01 p.m. when several residents in the 2300 Block of NE Everett Street called 911 to report hearing gunshots.

The calls continued for about 30 minutes, prompting a response from the Camas Police Department, with assistance from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police Department and Washougal Police Department.

At 10:37 p.m., an unmanned aircraft system located a male suspect outside a residence.

Police identified the man as the subject of a no-contact order, which prohibited him from being in the residence or possessing weapons.

Armored vehicles from the Vancouver Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene.

The man got into a car in the driveway and at 11.03pm the police approached with the help of an armored vehicle.

Police report that when attempting to communicate with the man, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect received first aid at the scene and was taken to a local hospital. He was treated and released from the hospital and then booked into jail.

Camas police identified the suspect as Patrick Wetzel.

No police officers or bystanders were injured.

A Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy fired his gun and has been placed on Critical Incident Leave, according to agency records. The Southwest Washington Independent Investigation Team, led by the Washington State Patrol, is investigating the shooting. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has notified the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations.

Body-worn cameras captured the incident, and the images will be released later.
