A man was found shot to death early Friday in the Muldoon neighborhood of East Anchorage, and police are calling it a homicide.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired at 2:40 a.m. at 17th Avenue and Early View Drive found a man in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said in an online dispatch.

Doctors tried to save lives at the scene but eventually declared the man dead.

“Police are currently following up on leads but believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety,” the dispatch said.

Police did not release additional information about the circumstances surrounding the killing or the identity of the victim or whether there is a suspect.
