Boy Scouts hold Americanism Luncheon at MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Northwest Texas Council Boy Scouts of America hosted their annual Americanism Luncheon.

Equal parts fundraiser and celebration, the luncheon honored the time and investment of those who have helped make the organization what it is in the North Texas area.

The event opened with a gathering of community partners and volunteers before giving way to a series of warm welcomes and introductions, then a meal and awards ceremony.

Judge Janice Ralston Sons won this year’s Americanism Award and said she was honored to receive the award among so many distinguished members of the community.

“I’m very honored today, especially when you look at this community and all the people who have made great strides that have made Wichita Falls what it is, who am I to receive such a prestigious award beyond what I would ever expect ?We have a room of Boy Scouts. This whole room is full of Boy Scouts, are we Boy Scout leaders who have made these people what they are? humbled by all this?” Ralston Sons said.

Shanna Miller, a scout from American Legion Post 169, Troop 2, said the organization gives young people the opportunity to learn important life traits and skills.

“Scouting has taught me life skills such as leadership, responsibility, perseverance and resilience that help me navigate the complexities of bereavement care and empower me to take control of my own life,” Miller said.

The event’s keynote speaker was Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp, who spoke about the importance of the structure the BSA provides.

“As a former Boy Scout I know how important it is to the structure and upbringing of many young men and women and so anytime I can be part of a fundraiser for Boy Scouts and to promote that it’s always good to be here plus always good to be back in Wichita Falls,” Sharp said.

The Northwest Texas Council oversees 843 Scouts and says it is grateful for the community members who support them throughout the year.
