Pokemon TCG Pocket needs trading to be even better

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is one of the best surprises of the year. It is an extraordinary free mobile experience that takes TCG based on Pokémon series and turns it into a proper, very elegant version. Although the mobile title is quite impressive already at launch, Pokemon TCG Pocket still needs trade to be perfect.

It’s kind of ironic that a card game that has the literal word “trading” in its title is missing it right now. In fact, it emphasizes the fighting side of the card game more than the actual trading aspect. Fortunately, we already know that trade is coming Pokemon TCG Pocket sometime. The questions now are when will it happen and what will it look like?

Trade has always been a key aspect of Pokémon series, both in the main games and the card version. It is one of the best ways to connect players in a multiplayer format. Everyone benefits from being able to trade in a mobile game like this. You may have cards I need while I may have cards you need.

Card boost packs are completely randomized. You might get a wonderful Articuno EX card, but you’re running a Fire-based deck, so it’s useless to you. Instead, you might want a card like Charizard or Moltres EX. Trading would allow you to immediately offer your Articuno EX for a card more suitable for your particular deck.

However, this feature should work safely. I see two ways it could work. The first would be to only allow friends to trade with each other while both are online at the same time. You can show your cards to each other in real time, and maybe even be able to send messages or react in the trading window.

This method would require certain failsafes, such as multiple checks to confirm that you want to trade so you don’t get scammed. This is also why it should be limited to friends only. On the other hand is the second method I would like to see Pokemon TCG Pocket equivalent to GTS. A global trading network for the mobile title would be great.

People can put up cards they want to get rid of and note which card they are looking for. It has to be pretty specific though, down to rarities and the like. But perhaps there could also be a way to send a personal offer to the person. Maybe you don’t have the card they want, but you have one just as valuable. Maybe the person can then consider the trade. But if you have the exact card, you can initiate the trade automatically.

This would be a neat way for everyone to get the cards they need. It would also make the game less pay-to-win, so to speak. I don’t think so Pokemon TCG Pocket is somehow a pay-to-win experience. However, there’s no arguing that the more money you spend on packages, the better chance you have of finding the best cards.

Adding this global trading system would allow society to balance out some. Everyone would have the chance to get the cards they need and want. It would also be great in the event that the title ever drops some expansion packs, which hopefully won’t happen.

As for when Pokemon TCG PocketFor trade to be released, it needs to happen sooner rather than later. The game came out at the end of October 2024. There are about two months left in the year before its release. I think it is imperative that trade comes about Pokemon TCG Pocket before the end of the year. The arrival of trade would greatly revitalize the community and be the possible addition to the already very successful experience.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is available right now for free for Android and iOS.
