‘It blew me away’ – Gary Neville isn’t holding back on Liverpool’s claim | Football | Sports

Gary Neville admitted the latest percentages to predict who will win the Premier League title “blew him away”. Liverpool are currently at the top after 11 games with a five-point lead over Manchester City and a nine-point advantage. Arsenal.

Fans are overjoyed by their strong start under Arne Slot, losing just one game, which has fueled debate over their title prospects. Nevertheless, ex-Manchester United Skipper Neville questioned the accuracy of such predictions after the poll suggested the Reds are 60% likely to walk away with the title in May.

The former England international also claimed that it is still too early to decide who will win the league. “Last night I was stopped in my tracks. I was watching Sky Sports” Instagram feed post a title probability percentage – it blew me away, Neville said on Stick to football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

Liverpool is 60% likely – most likely to win the title. Manchester City has a 34% chance of winning the title, and Arsenal has a 4.9% chance of winning. There’s no way that’s right – Arsenal at 4% and Liverpool at 60%? I don’t feel like that probability is right right now.”

Neville also claimed that “only five teams have ever been this far in front at this stage of the season, and they’ve all won the league”, no doubt an exciting treat for Liverpool fans. But while the Reds are in high spirits after last weekend’s vital 2-0 win over Aston Villa, many supporters will be wary.

The Anfield faithful are all too familiar with overconfidence, as history has dogged them with misleading statistics in the past. Liverpool have notoriously topped the league over Christmas only to lose the title an astonishing five times.

While they enjoyed Premier League success in 2019/20 during Jurgen Kloppthey have also lost the title in recent seasons in painful fashion. In the 2021/22 season, Klopp’s side took a point off City, while in 2018/19 their incredible 97 points were still one short short once again Pep Guardiolas page.

Former Reds star Jamie Carragher has now urged the club to use the January transfer window wisely if they want to go on and win the title. The former Liverpool the captain suggests making a crucial signing that could be the key to lifting the trophy in May.

Slot’s first window was muted, med Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is only overseeing the acquisition of Federico Chiesa. But after seeing the team win 15 of their 17 games so far this season, Carragher has challenged the Reds to make a mark, perhaps by moving back for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

The former captain also claimed Liverpool may not find themselves in this position again for a while and should therefore benefit from their guidance.

“If I were Liverpool I would do it (reinforcement in January),” said Carragher. “I was thinking about this—if you are Arne Castle and let’s say an average Premier League the manager is at a top club for two or three years trying to win the league.

“Arteta has been there (Arsenal) for four or five years. You are trying to build something. He may never be in this position again when it comes to being nine points ahead Arsenal and five free from City.

“It’s a long way to go, I understand that, but we know Liverpool don’t do stupid things in the transfer market but if there is anything there right now. Do it.”
